ITV News reveals rise in carbon monoxide poisoning
Ahead of Gas Safety Week, ITV News has revealed that a new Freedom of Information disclosure from UK Fire Services shows that incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning have risen by 32% in the last twelve months.
One of the most common causes of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home is poor maintenance. ITV News followed a routine gas inspection during which an engineer detected potentially lethal levels of carbon monoxide coming from a gas fire.
Many of these faults will be picked up when a properties annual gas safety check is carried out. Our real-time gas safety solution helps landlords and housing providers keep up to date with compliance and track all the property’s gas appliances, installations and services.
Gas Tag can also only be used by a registered Gas Safe Engineer helping to eliminate the 1.1 million illegal jobs carried out by unregistered rogue traders each year and reduce risks created through paper trail compliance.
By law, landlords are obliged to ensure gas appliances are checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer and must provide their tenants with a Gas Safety Certificate within 28 days of the annual check taking place. However, when we carried out a survey of tenants in 2018, we found that 28% either didn’t have or did not know if their rented home had a gas safety certificate.

The ninth annual Gas Safety Week sees organisations from across the UK working together to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
