An Islington housing association is installing life-saving gas safety technology in its 295 London homes.

Barnsbury Housing Association has partnered with award-winning RegTech company Gas Tag to protect its tenants.

Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement for all landlords. However, with the current ‘locally-stored’ method there is no standard way of managing this information, making monitoring very difficult.

Gas Tag works by keeping a geo-tagged, time-stamped and photo-verified record of all work carried out on a gas appliance. All the information is uploaded to a centralised portal and the Gas Safe Registered engineer verification feature prevents unregistered gas fitters from recording any work through the system.

Susan French, CEO of Barnsbury Housing Association, said: “We are a small housing association and Gas Tag offers us the solution we were looking for to help us to operate more efficiently and to manage compliance well.

“The software greatly improves our asset information because it keeps a track of the paper trail for annual gas certificates, replacement boilers and new appliances in our homes. It’s an extremely practical way for us to use new technology and we are delighted that it is being rolled out to our 295 homes.”

Barnsbury Housing Association has been providing quality affordable rented housing in the Barnsbury area since 1967. It was set up by a group of local professionals to save properties on Barnsbury Street from being demolished and to provide more good quality housing in Islington.

All of the Housing Asssociation’s 295 homes have been fitted with the technology heralded as “the most significant quantum leap in domestic gas safety compliance in 20 years” by Barry Sheerman MP, the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carbon Monoxide.
