Taunton Deane wins national awards after installing pioneering Gas Tags in its 4,500 properties

The council was one of the first in the country to install Gas Tag’s software in its 4,500 properties. The pioneering software is the first of its kind and is bringing about a ‘revolution’ in gas safety in the UK.

Gas Tag helps to save lives by stopping unqualified gas fitters from working on appliances in people’s homes.

At the AGSM Awards, which celebrate gas safety in social housing, Taunton Deane Borough Council  won the Social Housing Compliance Initiative award. The awards were announced at their annual national conference dinner at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire.

Richard Wiseman, property investment manager at Taunton Deane, said: “We’re delighted to have won this prestigious award. We first met Gas Tag at last year’s AGSM awards and were so impressed with their technology that we quickly implemented it in our homes.

“Thanks to Gas Tag’s innovative technology we’re leading the way in managing our homes and going above and beyond to ensure the safety of our tenants.”

In the upcoming IGEM Gas Safety Awards, which honours outstanding companies in the sector, Taunton Deane Borough Council has also been shortlisted for Innovative Product and Innovative Project together with Gas Tag.

Gas Tag is the only technology that verifies the credentials of gas engineers via a direct link to the Gas Safe Register. Each engineer has to evidence their competency and their completed job gets uploaded to a centralised portal where the data can be monitored in real-time. This provides landlords with a ‘NASA-style’ dashboard for gas safety compliance.

Since launching, Gas Tag has won the backing of MPs and industry figures, who believe the company’s pioneering technology can bring about a revolution in gas safety.

Gas Tag is being snapped up by landlords, housing associations and local authorities across the country to combat the scourge of illegal gas fitters and enforce gas safety regulations.

Gas Safe Register, the official gas registration organisation for the UK, reports that 1.1 million gas jobs are carried out every year by illegal gas fitters who are not properly qualified, putting householders at huge risk.

Paul Durose, co-founder and chief executive for Gas Tag said: “We’re delighted that Taunton Deane Borough Council have won this prestigious national award as a result of installing our pioneering software.

“Our revolutionary technology enables social and private landlords to know in real time that their gas appliances have been properly serviced and inspected.

“We are on track to fit Gas Tags in over a million rented homes in the coming months which means we will be protecting even more tenants from the dangers of unregistered illegal gas fitters.”
